Ontology Engineering 1

After pondering a lot on how to go about the formalization of the domain I came to the realization that my mind was not set in the proper scope so I had difficulties approaching the problem. I tried to put together all the concepts in one ontology. Yes I think there’s nothing wrong with that but it will make the task of engineering the ontology or clearing up the scope a little confusing. I thought that meeting scheduling is made up of a single problem and I should model that one big problem. However, I later realized that meeting scheduling is composed of 2 subproblems: meeting scheduling and conflict resolution/negotiation. An ontology is like a brain of an application in that it is made up of  concepts that revolve around the problem the application is trying to solve. However, it is possible to put sections on this brain like the human brain so that only a part of it is needed when facing one problem at a time.

At the moment, I am having difficulties in representing the concept of date. The problem arises from the fact that a date can be represented in either discrete or continuous manner. In either way, considerable issues arise. I am looking at the discretization approach as it is relatively easier. After all in Computer Science, one should as much as possible go after discrete data. But of course I have to tackle on the arising issues.
